Flap Repairs

Our dermatologists are expertly trained in flap repairs for surgical closures. Flap repairs use principles of plastic surgery and reconstruction to optimise function and cosmetic appearance. This technique is performed under local anaesthetic and involves rotating nearby skin to repair a surgical site. It is a complex procedure that requires advanced surgical skills but provides excellent aesthetic results. This technique is frequently used on the face, in particular around the nose and lips. Flap repairs are closed using stitches that typically form a geometric shape such as a T, W or Z. Flap repairs usually require more stitches, however this helps create less noticeable scarring as your dermatologist is able to strategically place them to minimise visibility. A follow up appointment will be made to remove the stitches and your team will advise you when this needs to be attended to.
