Muscle Relaxant / Anti-wrinkle Injections

Muscle relaxing injections are used to relax certain small facial muscles, making the small lines over these muscles disappear. These injections work by blocking signals from the nerves to these small muscles so that the muscles do not contract. Following treatment, the skin over the treated area appears smooth and without wrinkles. Other facial muscles continue to work normally.

This technique is mostly used to treat muscles of the upper face including the area between the eyebrows where frown lines occur, the forehead and the lines around the eyes (known as crow’s feet). The dermatologist uses a very fine, small needle to inject into the muscle. The procedure can be done in the doctor’s office and usually takes approximately 15 minutes. Any discomfort is usually brief and mild, and generally no anaesthetic is required before the injections are given. The full benefits are typically seen within seven days.

The treatment lasts for up to four months before the facial lines slowly start to return. Repeated treatments may last even longer.

All medical and skin cancer treatments are carried out in our southern Sydney, Kogarah, skin cancer and cosmetic surgery clinic.
