Reconstructions/Repairs

Our Dermatologists are expertly trained and experienced in reconstructive skin surgery techniques. Their training enables them to strategically place wound closures to optimise functionality and cosmetic appearance following surgery. Common techniques include rotating the skin in an area (known as a flap repair) or using skin taken from a different area on the body (known as a skin graft). Reconstructive skin surgery is performed in our state of the art surgical theatres under local anaesthetic. The method used to repair a wound depends upon the size, location and function of the area. Stitches (also known as sutures) are used to close repairs. These may be located externally, on the surface of the skin and are sometimes also placed internally. Internal sutures do not require removal as they are designed to dissolve over time. External sutures will be removed at a follow up appointment. Your team will advise you when this should be attended.
